Le Marche is Italy’s centre for leather manufacture and is famous for its shoes and handbags (Victoria Beckham comes here to shop!). Civitanova Marche (45 minutes from Sarnano) on the coast, is the world’s centre for shoe manufacture and home to Prada, Gucci and even England’s Church Shoes are made here. There is nothing that these world class shoemakers can’t tell you:  so much so that back in 1994, 2 FBI Agents came here to get help from a local shoe factory about the chemical composition of O.J. Simpson’s shoe soles!

Civitanova Marche has terrific clothing shops but also a great Saturday market where you can scour the stalls for fantastic leather footwear, bags, clothing,  scarves and belts – just for starters. Thankfully, there are lots of cafes, where you can stop to catch your breath and rest your arms!  You’ll find classic designs and styles but also some really individual and unusual items that no-one will have back home.   Oh, and  men are not forgotten – Italian men take  ‘la bella figura’ very seriously indeed.

There are scores of stylish fashion stores in the other bigger towns around,  but the big attractions here  are the designer  outlests and factory fashion shops here.  You can really get amazing bargains from the big fashion houses like Prada, Helmut Lang, Armani, Hugo Boss, Gabrielli and lots more. Tod’s Shoes is also very popular.

We’ll give you all the help you need to start your shopping trip but perhaps the best advice is to bring an extra, empty suitcase!
